Clogged sink drain cleaning tips
Drainage is one of the most frustrating things that a homeowner may have to deal with. If the kitchen sink is blocked, it may affect how to prepare dinner, wash dishes, wash your hands and cause many other discomforts. The good news is that most of the time, the clogged sink drain is very simple to handle. Here are some ways to get your drain to work as well as new.
At some point in your life and equipment, you will have to deal with a sink that drains slower than usual, and sometimes it will not drain it at all. If this problem occurs only in one particular sink, then you will have a clogged sink. Compared to a clogged sewer, it is easy to clean the sink.
Here’s how to do the clogged sink drain yourself.
Let’s start with the simplest way to unclog your clogged sink drain:
Boiling hot water.
Although this is only effective if you have metal tubes, pouring the boiling water directly down the sink can dissolve the clog and clear the drain pipe. Boil about a gallon of hot water in a large kettle or use a teapot. Pour the water directly into the sink and not on the porcelain. Never use hot water to unclog your sink if you have PVC tubing because hot water can soften these tubes, leading to joint dilution.
When the boiling water is not able to help or if you have PVC drainage pipes, you will need to use a plunger to fix a clogged sink.
First, you need to know that there are two types of plungers, these are the piston plunger and the flange plunger.
To unclog your sink, you must use the cup plunger. The flange plunger is used on toilet bowls because it is specially designed for that. For health reasons, do not want to mix the two. When you get the right plunger, close the flow hole with a piece of adhesive tape. The surplus sink is located at the top of most toilets. For the kitchen sink, remove the strainer if it has a strainer. You also need to remove the drain plug in the toilet tub. After doing so, fill the tub halfway with water. Then try to clear the drain pipe using quick and sharp plunges. Be careful not to break your sink though.
If the plunger fails, it is time to auger.
To work in the sink, use a sink auger, sometimes also called a drum auger. With the removal of the plug or drain basket, insert the perforated cable into the sink. Continue extending the cable until you feel it against the clog and then extend it more twelve inches. Tighten the screw and turn the crank handle of the auger. Use firm but gentle pressure. When you feel the clog is clearing, extend more cables to work through the entire blockage. Repeat this after a while and flush hot water when the water starts to flow through the sink.
The use of the auger usually clears most of the clogs. However, there can be a severe blockage in the clogged sink which may require the help of professional plumbers.
When all this fails, it’s time to hit the phone book and search for plumbing companies.
Many reputable companies offer plumbing services at very reasonable prices. They may also help you with problems that you can’t handle on your own. But in the worst case, this may be a good idea. There is a possibility that the cause of the clog is stuck deep inside the pipe. plumbers may have to use some of their own tools to accomplish the task. It may cost you some money, but it’s worth getting your kitchen sink like it works again.
To avoid clogged sink drain one must think about the maintenance of the sink. The key to good drainage not only on good installation. In fact, to make sure that the drainage system works flawlessly, it requires proper and regular maintenance. Without good maintenance, no matter how expensive the installation fee is, you will need to spend more money to get compensation in the event of a blockage or another problem.
